WHY SHOULD YOU SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?

WHY SHOULD YOU SEE A CHIROPRACTOR? Most people already associate getting adjusted with pain relief but chiropractic is so much more. Chiropractic is about helping the body communicate at its maximum potential to allow your body to stay well-tuned and heal itself. We are self-healing, self-regulating human beings. You do not need to tell your body to heal a cut; it just does it on its own - as long as it doesn't have interference. The top ten reasons to see Dr. Breanna Batey are:

1) Treating the cause of discomfort
2) Assisting with Chronic Pain
3) Helping with migraines/headaches
4) Avoiding medication
5) Boosting immunity
6) Improving Sleep
7) Reducing doctor and hospital visits
8) Improving sports performance
9) Pregnancy and fertility
10) Decreasing stress

1) Treating the cause of discomfort
Chiropractic treatment focuses on the root causes of discomfort, inflammation, and muscle tension, whereas prescribed medications typically just treat the symptoms. Treating the spinal misalignment (subluxation) is key, but I also recommend vitamins and supplements, beds, and healthy habits that aid my patients on their path to wellness.

2) Assisting with Chronic Pain
A 2015 study found that 94% of patients who underwent chiropractic treatment experienced a 30% reduction in low back pain after four weeks. Of those seeing a medical doctor instead, only 56% of patients experienced a 30% reduction in low back pain after four weeks. Additionally, chiropractic care also increases circulation and range of motion, which are important aspects of chronic pain conditions.

3) Helping with migraines/headaches
The American Chiropractic Association reports that 9 out of 10 Americans suffer from headaches. A 2018 study showed that roughly 1 out of every 6 US adults suffer from severe headaches or migraines, affecting 1 out of every 5 women. When my patients come to me with headaches, we look at common triggers and ways to avoid them, in addition to chiropractic adjustments and other therapies they find helpful in easing their suffering.

4) Avoiding medication
I’m constantly in awe of chiropractic’s ability to significantly reduce pain and completely change people’s lives. It’s always a joy to work with a patient’s primary care provider to find the perfect balance of care; this can lead to decreased prescription and OTC medications. It’s all about helping patients live their healthiest lives.

5) Boosting immunity
In 1993, The Chiropractic Journal of Australia asserted that getting adjusted boosts the immune system. Numerous other studies support this as well. In fact, chiropractic’s history often included disease treatment more than pain management; it is widely believed that chiropractic care was used effectively during the influenza epidemic of 1918. Most chiropractors will tell you there’s an important link between the immune system and nervous system, and that boosting one inevitably helps improve the other one. When spinal misalignments are present, it affects the nervous system, which is bad for health. Regular chiropractic care coupled with a healthy lifestyle is my top recommendation for wellness. My son has been adjusted since birth and has never had to take antibiotics.

6) Improving Sleep
Chiropractic patients regularly report that getting adjusted helps improve their sleep patterns. This makes perfect sense, considering that spinal misalignments (subluxations) lead to stress response, which throws off the body’s natural balance and prevents adequate rest. As an added bonus, chiropractic care helps improve circulation, which also improves the quality of sleep. I also recommend organic, toxin-free bed options for patients interested in further increasing their wellness by properly detoxing during sleep. The patent for my new line of organic, position-adapting beds is pending.

7) Reducing doctor and hospital visits
Between treating pain, headaches, sleep issues, immunity, and daily functioning, many chiropractic patients are able to significantly reduce visits to a medical facility. Many of my patients come to me for everything, only going elsewhere if they need specific lab tests, or in case of emergency. In patients who still make regular visits to their primary care provider, they prefer to get adjusted in conjunction with that treatment. In my many years as a chiropractor, I’ve helped numerous patients avoid surgeries they had previously been told were necessary. Aligning the spine can literally change everything.

8) Improving sports performance
Spinal mechanics are an important part of any athlete’s life, which is why many professional athletes receive regular chiropractic care - before, during, and after games. As a chiropractor for Northeastern State University’s athletics department, we saw significant results with chiropractic care, especially when combined with other therapies. Many of my patients incorporate exercise into their daily routines and find that getting adjusted helps maintain optimal performance and fitness goals.

9) Pregnancy and fertility
Chiropractic care leads to better functioning for people in general, but it can be especially important for pregnant women to get adjusted throughout their pregnancies. It increases range of motion, mobility, and overall positioning. We also talk about ways to maintain healthy functioning leading up to and including delivery. Many of my patients bring their babies for adjustments and continue to do so as they grow. I love treating families!
Getting adjusted can positively affect fertility as well; I have patients who have succeeded at becoming pregnant after they had been told it was impossible for them.

10) Decreasing stress
A 2018 study showed that chiropractic care provides long-term relief from major depression, as well as tension headaches; that’s huge! It’s not uncommon for me to also use essential oils, acupuncture, and other therapies to complement adjustments for these issues. Many of my patients say that coming to see me feels like a mini spa day! Even the patients that prefer to get in and out of the clinic quickly find that it relieves their stress level.

There are many other reasons to get adjusted. My motto is “LCFE” - Lifetime Chiropractic for Everyone! To find out what chiropractic can do for you, set up an appointment with me at Health First Chiropractic Clinic (918)456-1300. See our website for more information.
